There was a time when a baby stroller, as well as baby car seats were more a luxury than a necessity. But, today, just like microwaves and cell phones, they’ve taken center stage as modern conveniences.

Baby strollers range it type and style from the simple “umbrella” style to full blown “baby stroller travel systems”.

Stroller + interlocking infant car seat = “baby stroller travel system”

The categories for baby strollers are single, double, triple, jogging and our subject here, travel systems.

Gina T

Regardless of the child’s gender or parental lifestyle there will be a stroller travel system that will make transporting your child point A to point B so much easier.

Baby stroller travel systems include the stroller, infant car seat and car seat base. All color and fabric coordinated of course.

A feature common to baby stroller travel systems is the car seat versatility – it can be quickly secured in the vehicle using the seatbelt or pre-anchored car seat base. (You do the anchoring and it with some systems it requires a little patience).

Out of the car they do double duty as a (awkward and heavy, in my experience) child carrier or locked into place in the stroller (my personal favorite). The idea here is you can move the baby from the car to the stroller with minimal hassle.

Do you have to leave the baby in the car seat when getting out of the car? Nope. These strollers are designed for use with or without the car seat and you can still enjoy all the conveniences of the total system.

The most common of the baby stroller travel systems is the full-sized. It includes an interlocking infant car seat, handlebars (may or may not be adjustable), a five point safety harness for the baby in the seating, an under seat area for storage, and a tray for baby and parent stuff.

Some brands are shock absorber equipped. (Okay, they’re really springs, not real shock absorbers. But, it helps.)

These strollers can weight 25 to 40 pounds. So you can see where these can be a bit cumbersome. It’s a small inconvenience, though, and the benefits outweigh the challenges. That said, it’s still a wonderful way to get your baby around.

Not in the market for a full sized stroller? How about a lighter design (10 -15 pounds)?

These baby strollers still offer some of the conveniences of the full-sized. Easy folding, under seat storage, snack trays, cup holders, self-defense systems (no not really, just wanted to see if you were paying attention).

Ah, lest I forget, let’s mention the jogging stroller.

You might choose this one if you have the “active, on the go” lifestyle. They are designed to accommodate any terrain. The trade off is they can be a challenge to break down and store.

Having so many choices can be the proverbial “blessing or curse”. So, selecting a baby stroller travel system can be a little bewildering, with all the choices you have today. Just consider your lifestyle and how your stroller can best fit into it.

And consider maybe, having more than one type on hand to be ready for any contingency.

A few suggestions…

Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30 Travel System
At the time of this writing this a quite popular and an Amazon bestseller.

Here I want to comment on the pros offered one of the Taga Bikes pages.

“…Taga goes from super fun, safe and maneuverable bicycle to designer stroller that easily navigates stores, boards trains and slides into elevators.“

So, is it no longer ‘super fun, safe and maneuverable’ when converted to the designer stroller?

I also have to wonder how welcome I’d be in ‘stores… trains and… elevators’ after I’d been rolling over the various types of road debris along the way.

“The possibilities for adventure-and reasons to buy one-are endless“

Really?! Endless?! Really?!

I guess it’s kinda like the character ‘Bubba’ in “Forrest Gump” who recites the many ways to prepare shrimp.

It seems he could go on forever but he eventually runs out.

“The fact that you can stroll with it, ride on it, and take it on public transportation makes Taga one of the greenest vehicles around“

What?! Run that one by me again…

Ya know, I’m no copy writer, but…

…man, give me a break.

The greenest vehicles around? Just because…

“you can stroll with it, ride on it, and take it on public transportation“

I could do that with a mule, camel, aardvark, skunk, squirrel… okay I’ll stop there.

How about a log in a river? Now there’s green transportation. Far greener than a stupid, people powered aluminum trike. (Even though I can’t stroll with it or take it on public transportation.

“Feel good about leaving your car behind.”

Yeah, I ALWAYS feel guilty about that one. Especially in certain parts of town. I feel MUCH better trikeing through these same parts of town.

Fun aside now.

I really did find this an interesting, though impractical for my life style, product.

You can use it as a trike for transporting your child, or convert it into a stroller.

The advantage I see in this is you don’t need two conveyances for your child, trike and stroller. It’s all right there.

I see there’s a ‘basket’ underneath. Doesn’t look like much room though. Better take along a small diaper bag.

You should be able to judge from the photo and videos whether or not YOUR lifestyle could be augmented with the Taga Bike Stroller.

There are multiple colors and accessories. They have a double child seat made of wood. Oh, yeah! Wood. Gotta git me one!

Other accessories are a side pouch, rain cover, second child seat, mud flaps (to protect you, not flip mud on you), disc brakes, adjustable bike seat, adapter for a Maxi Cosi (only) car seat, shopping basket (a little forward thinking here on Tagas’ part. When your child is too large to tote around you can still use the trike for something).

So there you have it, my take on this product.

Like I implied, I don’t have a use for this but perhaps you will and so I bring it to your attention.

Retail: $1,495 when I last checked.

Sit and stand strollers sound like a contradiction to me. When I started doing my research I was unaware they existed. I’ve learned two children can ride on it. One on the rear standing board and one in the child seat.

The Joovy Caboose (reviewed here) offers a rear seat whereas the Mia Moda Campagno (also reviewed here) does not.

If you’re like me you know from experience that children can’t simply sit still where ever they go. Their world is dynamic. They like to look around, stand, touch stuff. Their motto…

“Turn me on, turn me loose!”.

So, how do you keep the wee one occupied? Take that frustrating problem and turn it into a win/win for you and your child.

I offer the “sit and stand” stroller. These could also be considered double strollers because they’re capable of transporting two children. One standing and one sitting.

Two I’ve found are the Campagno by Mia Moda and the Caboose Ultralight by Joovy.

Similar feature of both are…

The front wheels swivel or lock into place

Rear standing board for older child

Handle bars and resting pad for older child

Easy fold

2-Position recline

5-point safety harness

Detachable front tray with cup holder

Swivel and lockable front wheels

One-touch rear brake

Canopy

Car seat compatible (Becomes a travel system with most infant car seats).

Campagno Mia Moda

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NV4PFK?ie=UTF8&tag=getastroller-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002NV4PFK target="_blank">Compagno Mia Moda

From Italian maker Mia Moda, the Compagno is a sit or stand stroller that takes a more stylish, yet, practical approach. It features an easy one-hand fold design and a one-touch rear brake (the brake is accessable to either foot and locks both sides). A 5-point safety harness for the maximum in security for your little one provides the optimum in peace of mind for you. A steel frame assures years of use

The three position recline lets your child sit upright, relax at an angle, or lie flat. the “all wheel ride suspension” delivers a comfortable ride for your child (Editors note: well alright, they’re really just fancy springs). For families with a toddler and baby/infant you can let your toddler use the standing board in back while your infant rides in front.

Top the package off with a canopy and sun visor and you have a stroller that provides safety and comfort in one very fashionable model.

Joovy Caboose Ultalight

Joovy Ultralight

The Joovy Caboose Ultralight takes your sit & stand stroller experience to whole new levels. “Weighing in” at only 20 lbs, it nevertheless offers an aluminum frame sturdy enough to stand and bounce on without worry (Editors note: I wouldn’t recommend that “bounce on thing”). With a patented rear platform, capable of supporting 90 pounds, you need never worry about it collapsing under your child. The sealed ball-bearing wheels ensure a smooth, stable ride.

The available universal car seat adapter is compatible with 12 different infant car seats, such as the Chicco Key Fit, the Britax Companion, the Eddie Bauer Designer 22, and many more. There are other convenience features, as well.

The adjustable and lockable padded rear bench seat lets the standing child sit to rest a while. From there your little one can easily access the child tray with two cup holders. You have a storage basket with elastic sides within easy reach, too. When you’re done with the stroller, the “Easy Trigger” fold feature makes it easy to collapse for storage.

The Joovy Caboose also offers a Neoprene Cool Essentials Parent Organizer (sold seperately) so you can easily take everything you need on your trip around town. All wheels have sealed ball bearing hubs attached to a sturdy aluminum frame. The unusually large canopy provides ratcheting adjustments for easy positioning.

Now, from the pictures of the Joovy Caboose I’ve seen I’m not sure it would be right for me. It looks like there’s not a way for the standing child to safely hang on. The handles are on the side, rather than to the front of the child. This seems unnatural to me.

That said, I do like the rear seat for the second child. Though it looks like they could be uncomfortable with a child car seat in place.

Make your life easier and your children’s lives more enjoyable at the same time. How often can you say that? Select a Sit & Stand stroller and let them work those developing bodies to their heart’s content without stressing your own.

People really love this system.

Chicco Cortina Keyfit30 Baby Stroller Travel System

For a travel experience you and your child can enjoy get the Chicco Cortina Keyfit30 Stroller Travel System. All wheel suspension and oversized wheels make for a smooth ride. The seat back adjusts to 5 positions and flat.

“I love that the stroller has so many recline settings, and the memory recline is a great feature (you don’t have to adjust the seat each time you unfold it).”

Let me fill you in with a few details

A five point safety system keeps your child safely secured.

Easy to maneuver, easy to steer. Sometimes you simply can’t get away with leaving the baby in the stroller. They’ve just gotta get out. You can easily push the Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30 Baby Stroller while carrying the baby on your arm.

This Stroller Is Rugged.

“I estimate that over the last two years I have walked at least 700 miles with it and it still works perfectly.”

There are a lot of user reviews for this product. As with any product some are pro some con. Over all most of the reviews ended with the reviewer (usually a mom) giving the product a positive nod.

One reviewer noted the front wheels lock into the forward position. Now, if you’ve ever wanted to pull a stroller backward you know the front wheels always have to rotate.

This makes the stroller move to one side to the other. With the front wheel locking feature you can simply pull the stroller straight back without the side to side motion. So, if you want to calm your child by simply rocking the stroller back and forth, it’s really easy and it doesn’t look like your dancing with the stroller.

The rear wheels are linked, lock one side and you’ve locked both.

Easy to fold using one hand! Some reviewers did comment on this,

“…folding the stroller is not easy for me at 5’2′ but, after I got the hang of it I’m sure it will be fine.”

” Folding up and down is incredibly easy. (one handed).”

So you can take away whatever you want on this. My conclusion is it depends on your physical ability.

The adjustable handlebar is quite popular with multiple settings. Here’s a couple of comments,

“The child’s and parent’s trays are great and the handle is plenty tall enough for me (5’4) and daddy (6’2).”

“The best feature about this stroller is the adjustable handlebar. It works for both short and tall people. My hubby is 6’5″ and I’m 5’8″ and it works perfect for both of us. I’ve also let friends push it who are shorter than me, and they have had no problems either.”

The stroller can accomodate up to 50 pounds.

Some have complained it is a little bulky and takes up a lot of trunk space. So if you’re driving a small car you might want to consider a smaller stroller product.

Here are a few other comments I found for you. you’ll find more detailed comments on this page.

“…worth the money, great value for the money”

“LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the(car seat) base!!! It was so easy to install and I feel like it is done properly since it has a bubble level build in. Adjusting it is a piece of cake.”

“The best part of the travel system is that since the car seat goes up to 30 lbs we have used it on many airplane flights and it has extended the period of time that we can travel with an infant car seat as opposed to the large convertible car seat.”
